BRIEF HISTORY OF OGU/BOLO LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area is one of the Local Governments in Rivers State, Nigeria. It's headquarter is Ogu Town. It was created on 1st October, 1996 by Gen. Sani Abacha's regime.
It covers about an area of 89 km² and a population of 74,683 as at 2006 Census. This is an area belonging to the Ogu/Bolo people. The postal code of the area is 504.
The Local Government has four major Communities namely: Ogu, Bolo, Wakama and Ele and over Three Hundred satellite villages and fishing settlements. It has a boundary with Eleme Local Government on the West, Tai Local Government on the North, Bonny Local Government on the South and Okrika Local Government on the South-West.
The Local Government is economically viable. Fishing and Peasant Farming are the main economic activities of the people. Ogu Community is reachable by Land, through the Sea and by Air, the people are predominantly fishermen.
The area is endowed with both human and material resources, it co-hosts Oil and Gas Free Zone (via the Onne Port) owned and operated by the Nigerian Ports Authority.It also host a number of Federal and State Institutions and facilities such as the Nigerian Naval Training College and the proposed Rivers State Energy Village project.
