Ogu as a kingdom is situated at the left bank of Bonny River, it falls in the North & South-East of Port Harcourt being the capital of Rivers State. She joyously gained her independence on 1st October, 1996, that is to say, the Community became the headquarters of its Local Government Area, thus: Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Ogu. Fortunately, it happens to be one of the creek towns in Rivers State whereby it becomes one of the great distrubutors of Oil & Gas in the country - Nigeria, hence; Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) and Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) Onne/Ikpokiri Port Complex. Majorly, Ogu as Local Government headquarters is made up of over Fifty (50) villages. Viz:
Ogu is one of the Communities that constitute the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria.The Communities are: Ogu, Bolo, Wakama and Ele Community. It is economically viable. Fishing and peasant farming are the main economic activity of the people. Ogu Community is reachable by land, air and through the underways, the people are predominantly fishermen. Meaning: You iron wood, so hard that no axe can cut through, A People whose drinking water flows at the lowest ebb of the River, Treasure pot, on which the slightest damage leads to endless troubles, Punny Children with strong bones.
